Currencies
Selecting the Currency Options setting will bring up a menu of options that are related to currency management.
- General – These options generally affect how currencies are treated within your application.
- Default Currency – This option allows the user to set the default currency for use throughout the application. The selected currency will be used as the default currency in which all reports and displays will default to. Based upon applicable exchange rate values, totals, throughout the application will be adjusted based on this currency. See the Exchange Rates section for related exchange rate information.
- Remember Currency – When selected, this option will cause the default currency of a new expense to be set to whatever the last currency that was selected within the expense add/edit window. This is useful when traveling to different countries since the new currency is typically going to be used for a number of transactions before returning to your default currency.
- Auto Update – When enabled, this option will cause the application to look up the current exchange rate from the internet each time that a new expense currency is changed while editing an expense.
- Management – Currency Management allows users the ability to manage currencies.
Currency Management
When selected, this option will take you to a list of all currencies available within the application. From this list, custom currencies can be managed.
- Toggling the filter button at the top of the screen will filter the view of currencies between showing all currencies to only showing the custom currencies defined within the system. This feature is useful in quickly finding custom currencies that have been previously created.
- To add a new custom currency, select the add button at the top of the screen. This will display the add/edit custom currency window, which will allow new currency data to be added to the system. Data that can be tailored for custom currencies are:
- Country – The country that is represented by the new custom currency.
- Code – Code is typically a 3 character representation for the currency. The system does not limit the user to 3 characters, but it might be beneficial to keep with this standard for optimal screen representation of the currency.
- Symbol – The symbol will be used to represent the currency throughout the application. An example of this would be '$' for US Dollars.
- To edit custom currencies, select the custom currency within the list. This will result in the add/edit custom currency screen being raised. Note that users are not allowed to modify system currencies that were not manually created by the user.
- To delete custom currencies, long press on the custom currency within the list. From the menu that is raised, select Delete, and continue following the prompts.
