Tags
Tags are available throughout the application, and are organized within groups. These groups provide convenient mechanisms for keeping track of large numbers of tags.
Tag Selection
Different groups of tags are viewable by selecting the group name drop down box at the top of the tag screen. Each time a different group is selected, the tag list will be updated to display only those tags within the selected group. Throughout the application, the group that the user last accesses from a particular location within the application, becomes the default group for that area of the application.
When only a single tag selection is allowed, the user selects the tag by touching a tag within the list. Selecting a tag will automatically close the tag management window.
When multiple tags are allowed to be selected, the user selects multiple tags by touching the rows that correspond to the desired tags. Once all selections are complete, the user selects the Done button at the bottom of the screen. For convenience, a Clear All button is available at the bottom of the screen to clear all current tag selections.
Adding Tags
To Add a tag, select the plus button at the top of the Tag Management screen. This button will bring up a tag creation dialog where the user can enter the name of the new tag and select the group in which the tag belongs. By default the tag group will be set to the currently selected tag group in the tag management screen. Note that tag names are required to be unique within a group; so, if a duplicate tag name is entered, the application will ensure that the name is not a duplicate tag name.
Editing Tags
To Edit a tag, long-press the tag within the list of tags. the application will raise the tag edit dialog, allowing the user to change both the tag name and the group to which the tag belongs. Note that existing instances of the changed tag name will not be changed within existing jobs. The change will only affect future uses of the tag.
Delete Tags
To Delete one or more tags, select the device menu button, then select the Delete option. Next, select the check box next to the tags that you would like to delete. Once the appropriate tags are checked, select the “Delete” button at the bottom of the Tag Management window. The application will prompt the user to ensure that they want to delete the tags. Once the user agrees to continue, all the selected tags will be deleted. Note that deleting a tag will NOT remove the tag from existing job items that have that tag associated with them. It will only remove the tags from the group of tags for future use.
Warning: Deleted tags are not able to be recovered; however, a user can recreate a new tag with the same name.
Manage Groups
While on the Tag Management screen, selecting the device menu button then selecting Manage Groups, brings the user to the Group Management screen. From this screen the user has the following abilities:
- Add Group – A new group can be added by selecting the plus sign in the upper right hand corner of the screen. When selected, the user will be presented a dialog to enter the group name. The application will only allow uniquely named groups to be created. When a new group is created, a temporary tag is created within the newly created group. This tag can be deleted later if desired.
- Edit Group – The name of a group can be renamed by selecting the group within the group list. Selecting the group will raise a dialog that allows the user to change the name of the group. If the changed group name matches an existing group name, all tags within both groups will be merged together into the newly named group.
- Delete Group – Long-pressing on a group will bring up a prompt to delete the group. If the user continues, the group along with all tags within the group will be deleted. Note that no tags already associated with jobs will be affected by the deletion of the tag group.
